Tyres Affect Fuel Costs

Michelin has announced that they have seen a recent increase in tyre sales. In fact there has been a 50 per cent rise in tyre sales for winter 2011 compared to the previous year. Even though the season is milder than is typical, it seems many are going out to buy new tyres. The figures estimate that 500,000 winter tyres were sold last year. Companies are rather surprised at finding tyres being sold considering the economic issues the UK has been faced with. It is further surprising because of the mild winter.

It seems there are a couple of reasons that individuals have sought new tyres. There was a change in driver behaviour with regards to winter road safety. The snow and ice of the previous two years seems to have caused this change. Drivers want to avoid losing their grip on these dangerous roads, thus they have decided to be safer.

There are also issues with stolen vehicles due to frost jacking. The concept is simple. The thieves wait for the person to start their car in order to warm it up and when it is unattended so they can de-ice the windshields the thieves take the cars.

Things like theft and tyres can have an effect on one’s life. It makes the worry about fuel seem a little childish, but on the other hand, fuel prices continue to rise making things difficult. Going back to tyres for a moment, fuel can be affected by using old tyres. It may cause excessive braking due to slippage on the roads. Old tyres or those without the proper pressure can also mean a driver is using more fuel than necessary. To avoid these issues one should make certain their tyres are in good shape.

When a vehicle is maintained it means it will run better and use less fuel. There is another way to save fuel besides assuring one’s self of proper maintenance and tyres. Fuel cards are very handy in obtaining savings at the pump. Fleet drivers can even save around 10p per litre at the pump with the right card. All drivers can apply for a fuel card whether they are in a fleet or not. The solution is simple for those who want to save a little money at the pump. All one has to do is find the right card for their situation to start saving at the pump today.
